RoamRing

Roamring (Zwerfklank) was build for a Festival with this name at the Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam. After the festival it was shown at ThisArtFair 2016 at De Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam.

At first I wanted to fly small drones over the festivalgrounds which would record fragments of conversations and tweet them into the ether. Since it is not allowed to fly drones over people’s heads…

I decided something making sound would have to roam the terrain. Something on legs should slowly walk around without goal making soft gentle tones, a walking soundpoem. The image of a piano on legs was born.

The interior of a piano with weights softly caressing the strings, sometimes banging against it while the piano gently sways on the rythm of the walking.

The legs are inspired by Theo Jansen’s ‘Strandbeesten’.

The work on the left is Comptoise Tachometer.
